THE GARMENT CENTER / PENN STATION:
34th-42d Street - Fifth Avenue, west to Ninth Avenue
The Garment Center, sometimes referred to as "The Fashion District" -- an area of Manhattan packed with designer showrooms, dress manufacturing lofts, accessories dealers, and dress shops, is located in the area between Ninth Avenue and Fifth Avenue from 34th Street to 42d Street.
At the southern end of the Garment District is Pennsylvania (Penn) Station a major rail and commuting hub which sits underneath Madison Square Garden. The area will be undergoing massive development soon.
The major retail areas in this section of town include 42d and 34th Streets, the Manhattan Mall, and - going north and south - 8th, 7th, 6th, and 5th Avenues and in the center of the action, Broadway.
